The Max Roach Trio Featuring The Legendary Hasaan LP Album vinyl record Green
MAX ROACH TRIO The Max Roach Trio Featuring The Legendary Hasaan (Limited Edition 2026 UK/EU 7-track stereo LP pressed on 180-gram Translucent Green Vinyl, individually numbered, limited to 750 copies. Pianist Hasaan Ibn Ali arrived at the December 1964 recording session bundled in a heavy winter coat, gloves, hat and scarf, threw his gloves onto the piano, and started playing before anyone thought to ask him to take his coat off. Max Roach had personally persuaded Atlantic's Nesuhi Ertegun to give the largely unknown, self-taught Philadelphia pianist studio time, and what came out drew comparisons to Art Tatum and Thelonious Monk, a sound saxophonist Odean Pope has called the most advanced he ever heard develop in that city, and one that reportedly helped shape John Coltrane's own harmonic "sheets of sound" during the pair's early years practising together. This remains the only Hasaan recording released during his lifetime; a follow-up session for Atlantic the next year was shelved after his arrest, and the master tapes were later destroyed in a 1978 warehouse fire, leaving this album as the sole surviving document of a genuinely singular musical voice. This edition is limited to just 750 individually silver-foil numbered copies. Recommended)TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATIONSide One1. Three-Four Vs. Six-Eight Four-Four Ways2. Off My Back Jack3.
