Genesis Selling England by the Pound Vinyl LP New & Sealed
GENESIS Selling England By The Pound (2024 UK/EU 8-track LP pressed on classic black vinyl. Released in October 1973, Selling England By The Pound is Genesis's fifth studio album and the third to feature the celebrated line-up of PeterGabriel, Steve Hackett, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins. It reached number three on the UK Albums Chart, the band's most successful record to that point, driven in part by "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)," their first UK chart single, which grew out of a guitar riff Steve Hackett had been playing endlessly during soundchecks, eventually built into a full song addressing English life through the eyes of a groundskeeper pushing a lawnmower. "Firth of Fifth" showcases Tony Banks's quasi-classical songwriting and Hackett's guitar solo, widely regarded as one of his signature moments on record, while "More Fool Me" marks Phil Collins's second lead vocal for the band. The album's cover reproduces a painting by British artist Betty Swanwick, which directly inspired "I Know What I Like" and its lyrical imagery.
